The Los Angeles Music and Art School’s Holiday Dance Show, featuring an afternoon of Ballet, Modern, and Hip-Hop dances, took place on Saturday, December 10th, 2016 at the East Los Angeles College Performing Arts Center. The 55 minute program hosted over over 150 audience members and presented performances by 40 students.
LAMusArt Modern dance instructor, Kelly Ciurczak, opened the show with welcoming remarks stating, “Every week, the students in my class impress and inspire me with how much they’ve learned and how dedicated they are to their craft. This afternoon, we are here to watch and celebrate the hard work and continued commitment of our students to their art.”
The show began on an energetic note with performances by Teaching Artist Jenny Chaparro’s Ballet and Hip Hop classes, which featured music by Beyonce, Lana Del Rey and Coldplay. Chaparro’s Hip Hop, Pre-Ballet, and Ballet I classes are attended by over 25 students each week.
Ciurczak’s modern dance classes were up next with a full display of sass through their rendition of “Zero to Hero” from Disney’s Hercules and “No” by Meghan Trainor.
The three culminating pieces were performed by Teaching Artist Susie Fioretti’s ballet class, all choreographed to classical music from The Nutcracker. Fioretti’s students performed the “Nutcracker Party Scene” complete with stuffed teddy bears, “The Waltz of the Snowflakes,” and “The Waltz of the Flowers.”
The evening was a wonderful celebration of holiday cheer and the hard work of our Teaching Artists and students. LAMusArt is continually committed to providing opportunities for its students to perform and for the community to enjoy.
