LAMusArt Families Gather for Disney-Inspired Concierto de Primavera

The community of East Los Angeles was invited to be our guest as the Los Angeles Music and Art School (LAMusArt) presented its Disney-themed Concierto de Primavera at the East Los Angeles College Performing Arts Center on Sunday, April 3 at 2pm.

The occasion marked the culmination of hard work by our students and Teaching Artists while showcasing LAMusArt’s tuition-free music ensemble programs that feature the Junior and Youth Orchestras, Music Outreach Partnership Program, Choir, and Jazz Ensemble. Manuel Prieto, Executive Director of LAMusArt, thanked the audience and sponsors in attendance for their support of LAMusArt students and their investment and value of the arts in the community of East Los Angeles.

Concierto de Primavera featured many wonderful renditions of beloved Disney songs, such as the Jazz Ensemble’s splendid “Almost There” from The Princess and the Frog and the Choir’s “I Won’t Say I’m In Love” from Hercules.

Special guest performances included the LOLAS, a Los Angeles premiere all-female vocal pop group featuring Kelly Ciurczak, LAMusArt Teaching Artist, whose set included pop songs by Fergie, Beyonce and the Disney song, “Beauty and the Beast.”

The LAMusArt Youth Orchestra performed the thunderous and ominous “Night on Bald Mountain” from Disney’s Fantasia and an orchestral suite from the Pirates of the Caribbean films. They ended their set with the iconic George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” as featured in Fantasia 2000.

LAMusArt tuiton-free ensemble programs are funded thanks in-part to donations from individual donors and foundations sponsors. We would especially like to thank the Colburn FoundationEastside Arts Initiative, Great Minds in STEM, CBS2/KCAL9 and East Los Angeles College for their partnership in our endeavors and for their role in making Concierto de Primavera possible.
