Maira Solis grew up in Boyle Heights and is a successful alumna of LAMusArt. She was first introduced to music at Stevenson Middle School, where she learned how to play the violin and participated in the Mariachi Ensemble there. She began taking lessons at LAMusArt through Stevenson and continued playing mariachi throughout middle school and high school, and eventually became a member of the LAMusArt choir and chamber orchestra.Upon graduating high school, Maira attended Occidental College where she continued her studies in music and participated in the chamber ensemble, choir, and orchestra.
Maira has worked as a performance violinist since high school, playing with various mariachi ensembles and orchestras. She has taught as a private violin instructor and an instructor for Beulah Payne Elementary School, and is currently teaching music for the Santa Ana Unified School District. In 2016, Maira joined Latin-Grammy nominated Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles, the first female mariachi ensemble in the nation. Together they have played shows across the country, including the National Council of La Raza’s Annual Conference in Kansas City and with Mexican vocalist Aida Cuevas at the Roosevelt Theatre in Chicago. Maira has a passion for helping students advance in their violin studies and looks forward to helping the students of LAMusArt reach their musical goals!
