Born in Puerto Rico, music was always present in Raphael’s home. He studied classical music at a private academy in Cuba for five years, where he spent the next five years. By age seventeen, he had relocated to Los Angeles, where he worked at The White Memorial Hospital and took voice lessons at the Los Angeles Music and Art School. After serving in the Korean War, he lived in San Antonio, Texas where he was part of the Afro Cuba Music Revolution and worked with Peres Prado. Seeking a formal education, he attended USC for three years in the Opera workshop and Cal State LA, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree and subsequent Master’s Degree. He met Isela Sotelo at Cal State LA and she invited him to become part of the LAMusArt family and since then, he has enjoyed inspiring children to make a musical journey the best part of their lives.
