On Wednesday March 30th 2017 at 6:30pm, LAMusArt’s visual arts students shared their work with family, friends, and peers at the University of Southern California’s Caruso Catholic Center. “Flora and Fauna,” an art exhibit curated by LAMusArt staff and teachers, highlights landscapes and still life paintings from our brightest and best artists, ranging from 7 to 15 years old.

The art exhibit’s opening reception on Wednesday brought the LAMusArt community and the community of USC together to enjoy some impressive work from our students.

Caruso Catholic Center’s Associate Director of Campus Ministry, Anthony Heim, stated “Since the artwork has been mounted in our space, I see students stop by and look at the art, and then look down at the descriptions underneath, and gaze in amazement when they see how old the artists are!”

The reception featured delicious beverages, refreshments, and remarks from LAMusArt’s YPAB Chair, Richard Graham. Following Graham’s statement, LAMusArt art instructors Erick Altamirano and Zeina Baltagi commented on the work ethic and progress of their students.

“Not only do our students paint what they know, but they paint what they don’t know and that’s amazing,” said Baltagi. Other comments from students and parents reflected the impact LAMusArt has had on the community of East Los Angeles.

“Flora and Fauna” will be on display at the USC Caruso Catholic Center Student Lounge until April 20th, 2017, and will later travel to the Santa Fe Springs Art Festival in May. Stop by and see some amazing pieces while you can!

USC’s Caruso Catholic Center 844 W. 32nd Street, Los Angeles, CA 90007 (at 32nd and Hoover).
