LAMusArt Celebrates Launch of Courtyard Stage!

On June 1st, the Los Angeles Music and Art School celebrated the grand opening of its new Courtyard Stage with a gathering of friends, family and supporters. The momentous evening featured live music and local eats, all in the name of LAMusArt’s custom-built performance space and the inaugural set of summer series, the Comedy Series and the Artist Series - a roster of events taking place from June through September, right in LAMusArt’s backyard.

The evening began with remarks by Dr. Isaac Lopez and a performance by local Latin jazz band, Korduroy. Following remarks by Board President, Cynthia Pearson, students of the LAMusArt Jazz Ensemble (also led by Dr. Isaac Lopez) played Latin jazz favorites for the rapt crowd.

Attendees included a bevy of parents, funders, press, community members, and talent scheduled to perform throughout the summer, including stand-up comics like Megan Koester and Alison Stevenson, as well as podcaster Alexandra Tweten. Visitors were awed by the transformation of the space, from empty courtyard to full functioning stage.

“I honestly walked in and it took my breath away! I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this is as gorgeous and professional as any theater in New York,” said LAMusArt Young Professionals Advisory Board member, Patrick Phillips.

The night concluded with a word from Executive Director, Manny Prieto and Development Manager, Tahnee Freda, who thanked the community for their support and participation, and outlined the sponsorship opportunities available throughout the season.

The event proved to be a vibrant start to a fun-filled summer of events!
