Student Profile: Akira Sanon

Akira Sanon, 7, is a bright student who has been part of the Los Angeles Music and Art School since December 2023. Akira joined LAMusArt at the age of 6 years, starting with piano classes. When asked how she ended up exploring the arts at the school, Akira said, "I was introduced to LAMusArt by my mother, who has been working as the school manager for the past 20 years." Akira is but one of many in her family who attend the institution as she explains, "Currently, I have my three cousins enrolled also and my brother from when he was also 6.”

Outside of LAMusArt, Akira keeps busy with art and piano classes at school, and she has especially loved the range of artistic opportunities available to her at LAMusArt. "Art has been my favorite class," Akira replied and added, "I would like to learn ballet and guitar classes."

Akira speaks highly about the teachers who have inspired them at LAMusArt. "I have three favorite teachers," she explains. "Ms. Mana, the songs on the piano; Diana, the art projects that were so fun to do; and Bridget, I would like to take her guitar classes." Each teacher has played a special role in developing Akira's artistic talents and curiosity.

Akira’s most cherished moment at LAMusArt was from 2024’s Camp MusArt’s musical performance of Matilda. "My favorite memory was this summer's camp musical performance of Matilda, because I enjoy watching people act and sing," she said. "I love drama—it was very fun to see."I want to be an artist and an actor. LAMusArt will help me become a better artist and actor."

Akira has had many great milestones here at LAMusArt, including the holiday card design competition that she says with a triumph "what I am most proud of." And when asked how they would encourage others to join LAMusArt, Akira's enthusiasm exclaims, "I would tell them it's super fun and they can join in the same class as me."

With Akira building here at LAMusArt with her boundless creativity and enthusiasm, this budding young talent continues to grow as both an artist and a performer. The future is bright for this talented youngster, who keeps on inspiring others by showing them his love of the arts.
