LAMusArt welcomes students back onto our East Los Angeles campus starting this September. Learn more about our programs and the many ways to engage in the arts as a student, parent, community member, and arts champion!
The last year and a half has presented us with insurmountable challenges and changes. But, we faced the challenges of 2020 with innovative solutions and we developed 8 new programs, provided 200 scholarships and employed 41 teaching artists and staff. We reached 10,000 households and counting with the premiere of LAMusArt Live!, a virtual education/entertainment concert season streamed through YouTube. Through this platform, we premiered 10 original student compositions, 10 original plays, and released over 20 hours of performances virtually. We also employed 100 artists and technicians in the process. LAMusArt also made decision to move to a virtual teaching environment after a short month and a half closure in the beginning of the pandemic, but now after over a year of online instruction, we are so excited to welcome students back on school grounds for our in person classes starting September 1, 2021.
REPLENISHING THE ARTS ONE CLASS AT A TIME
This summer we began the process of phasing back into in person instruction, first with our summer camp and then with our tuition-free ensembles. Our summer camp, consisting of 2 small group pods (an older and younger group) gained 5 weeks off interdisciplinary education in visual art, drama, music and dance. This summer camp proved successful and safe and only made us more excited for our return. Our five Tuition-Free Music Ensembles resumed shortly after and have filled LAMusArt’s halls once again with the sounds of instruments and voices. As we inch closer to September 1st, our phase in model has proved successful in ensuring safety for students and staff.
ON OUR COVID-19 SAFETY GUIDELINES
Here at LAMusArt safety is our biggest priority and we have made some important renovations and policies that reflect our commitment to our safe return. Firstly, we installed new remote controlled AC units in every classroom and office, which allows for better ventilation. We also installed a HEPA (high-efficiency particulate absorbing filter) and UV sanitizing system to sanitize the air 5 times an hour. Lastly, some of our new policies include a class cap of 10 students for all group classes, temperature checks upon arrival, social distancing, and masks required of all students and staff. View our Safety Guidelines here.
THRIVING TOGETHER ON THE TRUSTED LAMUSART CAMPUS
Teamwork, collaboration, listening skills, coordination -- While LAMusArt’s virtual programs transcended the challenges of the pandemic, remote learning can fall short of valuable skills gained through in-person arts instruction or leave out our valued students who may not have the broadband access needed. Participation on campus allows students to receive the individual attention that LAMusArt’s instructors reliably provide and invites students with diverse learning abilities or styles. For students who prefer to continue online, we will continue to offer select virtual options for private lessons.
The support and trust of our students and community, including donors and funders such as The Colburn Foundation, L.A. Arts Recovery Fund, BCM Foundation, Music Man Foundation, Vernon Community Fund, and the Jo Mitchell Foundation bolstered our efforts to reinvest in LAMusArt’s mission and champion our young people. We are grateful to all of our loyal stakeholders, staff and faculty for helping provide our students with the chance to experience success through the arts.
